While some may believe that normalizing drinking at a younger age could help educate minors on how to drink responsibly, many people believe that it will only increase the frequency of consumption. The second argument, was that drinking alcohol is not a protected right in the constitution. This is why they believed that it was not immoral to change the legal age. Americans are extremely protective of their rights, which is why some people thought that it is only right that they be able to control their own drinking habits; however, this is not a guaranteed right in the U.S. constitution. According to Andrew Plunk, there was an argument that lowering the drinking age would only make drinking more dangerous for kids who are not in college. By lowering the drinking age, college students would be able to legally drink, which would only make it more dangerous for people who still arent old enough. While some people currently believe that the MLDA makes it dangerous for college students, it is being argued that by lowering it, we will be putting high school and middle school students at risk (Martinez 407-410). Studies have shown that the minors who are fighting to get the drinking age lowered are those who are heavy users and at risk (Martinez 407-410). This could mean that they are only looking for a more convenient way to drink alcohol. Transition: Now that we have explored one perspective, why dont we begin looking at arguments in favor of lowering the drinking age. There are also many people arguing that lowering the legal drinking age may be just what we need in order to keep our societys youth safe. In the U.S., thirty-one percent of automobile accidents are alcohol related. This is much higher than European countries who enforce an MLDA below twenty-one (procon.org 2016). A 2016 study showed that 20% of their high school subjects had gotten into a car where the driver had been consuming alcohol . The other argument is that the drinking age encourages bad drinking habits (Anderson 2016). This includes binge drinking. Stephen Cranes Red Badge of Courage When reading the Red Badge of Courage, it is necessary to understand the symbolism that Stephen Crane has created throughout the whole book. Without understanding the true intent of color use, this book loses a meaningful interpretation that is needed to truly understand the main character, his feelings and actions. Crane uses very distinct colors in his text to represent various elements that the main character, Henry or â€Å"the youth†, is feeling along his adventure of enlisting into battle. In this paper, I hope to clarify exactly what the Age of Enlightenment was by using different quotes from authors and notes that I have taken in class. I also hope to show how different authors used deism in their writings. The Enlightenment was an age that stressed reason rather than stressing authority. In Benjamin Franklins Autobiography, he states that he wished to live without committing any fault at any time; that he would conquer all that neither natural inclination, custom or company might lead him into. Habit took the advantage of inattention. Inclination was too strong for reason. He concluded that our interest was not sufficient to prevent our slipping, and that the contrary habits must be broken and good ones acquired and established, before we can have any dependence on a steady uniform rectitude of conduct. (385-386) The authority was very powerful during this time but with many people stressing reason instead of authority, it gradually lost its power. The Enlightenment was a shift from otherworldly to this worldly point of view. The Enlightenment was an interest in scientific inquiry. It was an age of great optimism. It was the belief in human and social perfectibility; that humankinds inherent tendency was to become better human beings. It was an era of self-confidence, where personal effort can lead to reform. That one must analyze and deal with all social problems. Deism was an important factor of the Enlightenment. According to Websters dictionary, deism is a movement or system of thought advocating natural religion, emphasizing morality, and in the 18th century denying the interference of the Creator with the laws of the universe. Benjamin Franklin was a deist. One characteristic of Deism is that Man, though personal, is part of the clockwork of the universe. Man has intelligence, a sense of morality, and a capacity for community and creativity. These, however, are not grounded in Gods character. They have a sort of autonomous nature. Franklin wrote that he was never without some religious principles, that he never doubted the existence of the deity, that he made the world, or governed it. However there were people of that age that were anti-deism. (384) For example Philip Freneau wrote in his poem called On the Universality and other Attributes of the God of Nature, that he lives in all, and never strayed. A moment from the works he made. Nonetheless, the study supports some of the earlier findings like that of the work of Buzzard et al (1996) where the use of more than method can complement the weakness of the others. That is, they can relate the consistency of the findings thereby making the researcher and the audience more confident in the findings. Why focus on only two methods The reason behind this is that DH and FR are the ones that are prominent and used extensively in the field. In an assessment study of what nutritionists recommend to use, Darwin et al (1998) found that DH and FR stands out above the rest. Nonetheless, most of the respondents favored DH better than FR because of the intensiveness of DH and because of the time span covered. FR usually takes a few days as compared to DH. In this study, I aim to compare Diet History with a 7 day Food Record thru a statistical report using a population of 41 respondents 19-41 years old. This study also provides an opportunity for me to better appreciate the use of these methods and gain some important insights in the process. Methodology Respondents For this study, data regarding food intake of from 41 respondents were obtained. To address the issue of biases regarding age, the respondents were chosen so as to provide a 19-41 age spectrum. Of the 41 respondents, 5 were males and 36 were females. Relevant anthropometrical data such as age, weight, height, Body Mass Index (BMI) and Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) were collected and compiled. Dietary assessment The data collection process involved the collection of the Diet History and the 7-day food record of the respondents. With a knowledge of the food intake, the total energy uptake (in kJ) and the total fiber (g) were determined along with the breakdown of the components comprising the total energy. The energy percentages included %protein, % fat, % carbohydrate and % alcohol. The fat category was further categorized into Polyunsaturated Fat (%PUFA), Monounsaturated (%MUFA) and saturated fatty acids (%SFA). Steinbeck, a conservative that valued the old America, could produce pages of beauty followed by pages of sheer trash writing using specific characteristics, which his work is characterized by. John Steinbeck’s work is characterized by symbolism and allegory, which can be seen in his novels The Pearl, The Grapes of Wrath, and his short story â€Å"Flight.† In his short story, "Flight," John Steinbeck uses many examples of symbolism, which is one way you can characterize John Steinbecks’ work. Symbolism can be a person, place, or thing used to portray something beyond itself. The most repeatedly used symbol in â€Å"Flight† is the color black. In literature many authors use the color black to represent death. In his short story, â€Å"Flight,† Steinbeck has numerous examples of color symbolism. A few examples are the black handle on the long blade, Pepe’s black hair, and the black jerky. Another example may be found when Pepà © puts on his fathers black coat, which represents death. When Pepà © puts on the coat he is literally covering himself with death. Another fine example is the trail in which Pepà © travels. Steinbeck describes the path as a well-worn black path. By traveling on this path he is in fact taking the road of death. Furthermore Pepà ©'s appearance also helps foreshadow the ending. Steinbe ck describes him as having a black hat that covers his black thatched hair. Pepà © is also described as being dark, lean and tall. Another example is Pepà ©'s shack. The shack is described as weathered and very old. It casts a rather large shadow to the Northeast. The darkness of the shadow symbolizes death in the home. As we can readily see, the authors use of black symbolism in the story tells us that the main character, Pepà ©, is impending death (pg. 225). Another form of symbolism that Steinbeck utilizes, which is also in â€Å"Flight,† is nature symbolism. Throughout the story he uses nature to symbolize a variety of things. An example of nature symbolism is water, which is used to represent life. Some examples in the short story â€Å"Flight† are Pepes’ water bag that he hung over his horses’ shoulder, which began to leak, symbolizing Pepes’ life leaking away. Another example is when Pepe was traveling he start... ...n stole for him, is also clearly an example of Christian symbolism. It resembles what we receive in memory of him (pg. 89). Allegory, which is more prevalent in the twentieth century, is another way in which Steinbecks’ work can be characterized. Allegory is a work of literature in which people, objects, and events stand for or transcend abstract qualities. With varying degrees of deftness, all of Steinbecks’ major novels juxtapose their biblical sources in an attempt to transcend them. The Pearl and The Grapes of Wrath, which are two of Steinbecks’ major novels, are both allegories. The Pearl is an allegory on the evil of worldly treasures. The language in The Grapes of Wrath that the characters use is associated with Piedmont culture which is one thing that makes this novel an allegory (pg. 18-19). As you can see John Steinbeck is a great writer. He is great in his use of symbolism and allegory, which gives you a way to characterize his work. If you believe his work should be characterized in any other way you need to check out his novels The Pearl, The Grapes of Wrath, or his short â€Å"Flight†. So next time you pick up a book, pick up one of these for a great excitement.

Being a teenager is one of the toughest and most memorial things that one goes through in life. A teenager goes through many happy times and many depressing times. Stress, depression, and peer pressure, are some negative things that a teenager goes through in life. Friends and dating are joyful times that teenagers face in the adolescent years in today’s time. Tension, stress and depression affects everyone at one time or another in their life. A death in the family, arguing with and losing a friend, being bullied or teased, peer pressure to wear certain types of clothing or hairs, try tobacco, alcohol or drugs, are all factors that can create stress, and may cause uncertainty and depression. There are many causes of stress such as lack of affection and tension from parents, loneliness and low self esteem. Low self-esteem can be a major problem for teens because of the importance placed on looks and achievement in our society today. According to Patricia Shapiro in A Parents’ Guide to Childhood and Adolescent Depression (1994) â€Å"three to six million children under the age of 18 may suffer from clinical depression. Thousands of others probably experience less serious bouts of stress and depression although most such cases go untreated and unreported.   â€Å"Large amounts of homework or overdue assignments can be overwhelming. School can be very stressful because you may feel rejected by peers or criticized and embarrassed by teachers.   A healthy part of every child’s development is involvement with their peers. This is especially true during adolescence as teenagers develop a sense of independence from their parents. Members of the peer group often dress alike. They talk about similar things, like the same music, laugh at the same jokes and share secrets. Adolescents spend much of their time away from home, whether at school, social events, or the homes of their friends.

Generally the functions of the organization can be classified as either formal or informal (Naoum, 2001, p.1).
